Boy Scouts of America – The Engine that powers the Food Drive.

Did you know that Boy Scouts of America including Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Venture Crews, and Boy Scouts provide over 55% of the goods submitted to the Richmond Food Bank?  And we do that in two days a year.  Did you also know that half of the food donated is provided to children under the age of 16 years old?

The importance of participating in this worthwhile effort can not be overstated.  The energy Scouts bring to this program is vital to sustaining a flow of basic care provided primarily to fellow children and their families within our local community.

Please give generously of your time and resources.  It’s a fantastic learning tool to teach your children about community involvement. Working with so many others doing the same is very satisfying.

There are a few rules about the mechanics of delivering the bags and then picking up the donations.  Scouts must be in uniform and work with a buddy and at least two supervising adults.  Do not enter side yards or any space where you can’t be seen from the street.  Obey all traffic laws, no riding in the back of pickup trucks or hopping in and out of vans with side doors open.  You may begin delivering and picking up bags after 10:00a.m. on the designated days.  Please be very mindful of the dangers regarding vehicle traffic when conducting this operation on our side streets.  Above all else, keep the children safe.
